Technical SEO for industrial websites: pre-launch checklist

Technical SEO on a manufacturer site is what lets Google index and rank capability, product and contact pages. Before launch, verify unique titles and descriptions, canonical URLs, a submitted sitemap, Organization and Service structured data, meaningful image alt text, internal links to RFQ and LCP under 2.5 s on mobile.

Key takeaways

  • Without a correct sitemap and canonicals, new pages can sit unindexed for weeks.
  • Every capability page needs its own title, description and H1 — duplicates kill rankings.
  • RFQ forms and phone/WhatsApp links should be in HTML, not only in JS popups.
  • Mobile Core Web Vitals matter as much as keywords in competitive niches.
  • Structured data helps rich results but never replaces useful on-page copy.

Before you spend on paid ads or publish dozens of articles, make sure your industrial website is not blocking crawlers. Technical SEO is not a trick list — it is what Google needs to fetch, understand and show the right URL.

Check every template once

Item What good looks like Typical failure
Title Unique, ~50–60 chars, names the capability Every page says “Home | Company”
Meta description Honest summary of the page Empty or duplicated
Canonical Absolute URL of the preferred version Mixed http/https
H1 One clear H1 aligned with the title Logo marked up as H1 everywhere
Robots index, follow on money pages Staging noindex left on production

Run URL Inspection in Search Console on the home page and your main capability URL. “URL is not on Google” usually traces back to this table or a missing sitemap entry.

Sitemaps and redirects

List only URLs that return 200. A 301 from an old business card URL must land on the final page, not hop through three redirects.

After deploy:

  1. Submit sitemap.xml in Search Console.
  2. Confirm /robots.txt references the sitemap.
  3. Test legacy URLs people still type from email signatures.

Structured data that fits manufacturers

  • Organization with legal name, logo and sameAs profiles.
  • LocalBusiness or ProfessionalService when you serve a defined region.
  • Service on machining, fabrication or product lines.
  • FAQPage only when those questions are visible on the page.

Invalid JSON-LD does not penalize you; it simply does nothing. Validate with Rich Results Test before go-live.

Buyers often search from the plant floor. LCP above 2.5 s and layout shift hurt both conversions and quality signals.

Practical fixes:

  • Put RFQ copy and button in static HTML for LCP.
  • Serve machine photos at real display width in WebP/AVIF.
  • Self-host fonts or subset them — five families is rarely necessary.

Each capability page should link to:

  • RFQ form or WhatsApp;
  • at least one sibling page (another process or material);
  • the home page with descriptive anchor text (“5-axis CNC in Ohio”), not “click here”.

Next step

Walk the checklist on staging, run mobile Lighthouse on the home page and your highest-value capability URL, fix failures, then batch-request indexing in Search Console. Content and ads perform better on a clean base.

When to outsource this

  • The site was built in a page builder and nobody knows where titles or redirects live
  • You are migrating domains or http→https and cannot afford ranking loss

When not to

  • There is still no capability copy on the site — technical SEO does not invent content

FAQ

Do we need a blog to rank?

Not always. Many job shops rank with strong capability pages alone. A blog accelerates long-tail topics once the technical base is clean.

How long until new pages index?

With a valid sitemap and internal links from the home page, often days. With accidental noindex or a missing sitemap, months or never.

Is hreflang required?

Only if you publish the same offering in multiple languages on different URLs. Each pair must reference the other; broken hreflang confuses Google.
