Engineering support
Engineering capacity without another full-time hire
We work as an extension of your engineering team: modeling, drafting, drawing checks and engineering change updates, scoped per work package or as a monthly block of capacity. Your engineers keep design authority and approve every release; we take the hours of CAD work off their desk, in a time zone close to yours.
What we deliver
| Deliverable | Files and formats |
|---|---|
| Models and drawings | Native SolidWorks + STEP / DXF / PDF, in your templates |
| Drawing checks | Marked-up PDF with issues, references and suggested fixes |
| Engineering change updates | Updated models, drawings and BOM per ECO, with the revision table filled in |
| Weekly status | Short written update: done, in progress, blocked, questions |
Drawings in mm, inches or dual-dimensioned (mm / in), to the standard on your title block.
How it works
- 1
Start with one package
A real piece of your backlog, scoped and priced on its own.
- 2
Set the rules
Templates, standards, naming, who approves and how files move.
- 3
Run in cycles
Work packages or a monthly capacity block, with a weekly written status.
- 4
Adjust
Scale up for a launch, down after it. No long-term contract required.
Who it's for
- Small engineering teams with a drawing backlog that blocks production or quoting
- Engineering firms that win more design work than their drafters can document
- Manufacturers covering parental leave, turnover or a product launch peak
Who it's not for
- Teams looking to hand over design responsibility and approvals entirely
- Work that requires someone on site every day
Keeping design authority with your team
Outsourced engineering works when responsibilities are written down. We agree this on day one:
| Decision | Who |
|---|---|
| Design intent, materials, critical tolerances | Your engineer |
| Modeling approach, drawing layout, views | Downway, to your standard |
| Drawing check before release | Downway, then your approval |
| Release to production or suppliers | Your engineer |
That split keeps your team accountable for the product while removing the hours of modeling and drafting from their week.
FAQ
How do we communicate day to day?
Email for anything that needs a record, a shared chat channel for quick questions and video calls when a drawing needs discussion. You have one named contact.
What overlap do we get in working hours?
São Paulo is UTC−3 all year: 1 to 3 hours ahead of US Eastern and Central time and 3 to 5 hours behind the UK and Central Europe, depending on daylight saving time where you are.
Is this hourly or fixed?
Work packages are fixed-price. A monthly capacity block is a fixed number of hours per month at an agreed rate, with the status report showing where the hours went.
Can you use our CAD licenses and PDM?
Yes, if you provide remote access or a license. Otherwise we work on our own SolidWorks licenses and exchange files through your system.
