SEO Mistakes on Industrial Sites That Kill Your Traffic
The most common SEO mistakes on industrial websites, from duplicate titles to thin product pages and broken redirects, and how to fix each one.

The costliest SEO mistakes on industrial sites are rarely sophisticated. They are simple flaws repeated across hundreds of catalog pages that make Google see little value. The good news is that most can be fixed in weeks. These are the seven that show up most.
1. Duplicate titles and descriptions
When every product in a line carries the same title, like Valves | Company X, Google cannot tell which page to show for each search, so none stands out.
Fix: export titles with a crawler and give each page its own, with the model, the main feature and, where relevant, the application. For a large catalog, build an automatic pattern and manually review the pages that sell the most.
2. Thin product pages
One photo, a part number and the phrase contact us answer nothing. Buyers need dimensions, materials, operating range, standards and applications. Without them they leave, and Google notices.
Fix: add a specification table in real text (not just an image), a 150 to 300 word description of use and differentiators, and genuine FAQs from your sales team.
3. A catalog that exists only as PDF
PDFs can be indexed, but they sit in isolation, with no navigation, no quote button and little tracking. Many manufacturers have all their technical content trapped in this format.
Fix: turn each key item into an HTML page and keep the PDF as a downloadable extra. A well-structured digital catalog solves this.
4. Broken redirects after a redesign
When you launch a new site, old URLs that used to bring visits start returning 404. All their accumulated relevance is lost, and the traffic drop shows within weeks.
Fix: before any migration, list old URLs that get traffic and map each to its new equivalent with a 301 redirect. Afterward, watch 404 errors in Search Console.
5. Heavy images that slow the site
High-resolution machine photos uploaded straight from the camera can run to several megabytes. On a phone the page crawls and the visitor leaves.
Fix: resize to the displayed size, convert to WebP, enable lazy loading and write descriptive alt text for each image.
6. Ignoring search intent
Writing a product page like an article, or an article like a sales brochure, confuses everyone. Someone searching stainless tank manufacturer wants to see products and request a quote; someone searching how to size a tank wants to learn.
Fix: assign one page type to each intent and connect the two with internal links.
7. Tracking nothing
Without Search Console and analytics, you only find problems when sales drop. Install both, set up click tracking for phone, WhatsApp and forms, and review the numbers monthly.
One bonus mistake, common among exporters: publishing the English version as an unreviewed machine copy of the home-language text. Foreign visitors spot the shortcut in the first sentence, and Google struggles to understand when each version should appear. Have the language reviewed by a native speaker who knows the technical vocabulary.
Where to start
Pick the five products that bring in the most revenue and fix mistakes 1 through 5 on those alone. Measuring the effect on a small group is faster and gives you the argument to extend the work to the rest of the site.
